Cannes Classics: “Kanal” by Andrzej Wajda

The great films of Polish director Andrzej Wajda are being honored by the Cannes Classics film heritage program with the screening of a restored print of Kanal. This
feature-length black-and-white film, shot in 1956, is the story of the final days of the Warsaw rebellion of late September 1944. Do not expect a portrayal of Polish heroism: this is a
heart-breaking tale of frustrated courage of epic proportions, and one of the most tragic chapters in the history of Poland.
