On July 19th, following a proposal by President Gilles Jacob, the Festival de Cannes’ Board of Directors decided to appoint Mr. Thierry Frémaux as General Delegate. This appointment
was a unanimous decision and was ratified by both Ministers in charge of Culture and Foreign Affairs. Mr. Frémaux took up his new post on the 9th of August.

he was also appointed Director in 1995, before joining the Festival de Cannes in October 2000 as Artistic Director.

Mr. Jacob announced: “The Festival de Cannes has only has three General Delegates in 60 years: Robert Favre-Lebret, Maurice Bessy and myself. I am happy that the Board of Directors
supported my nomination of Thierry Frémaux. This is the start of a new chapter. After seven Festivals as Artistic Director and crowned with the success of the 60th Festival, he has my
confidence and support. This nomination both enables and, my main objective, ensures the Festival’s future under the best auspices.”
