Out of Competition – Special Screening: “Centochiodi” by Ermanno Olmi

A longtime regular at the Cannes Festival, Ermanno Olmi has come to present his new film Centochiodi, as a feature at the Special Screenings for this 60th anniversary event. The
Italian director was selected for the 1963 Competition with I Fidanzati (The Engagement), in 1978; for Albero degli zoccoli (The Tree of Wooden Clogs); in 2001,
with Il Mestiere delle armi (The Profession of Arms); and in 1983 for an Out of Competition presentation of Cammina cammina (Keep on Walking). In
Centochiodi, we observe as a distinguished young professor from the University of Bologna finds himself embroiled in a difficult investigation. It precipitates a crisis in which
he abandons everything, to walk the quiet banks of the River Po. There, he discovers the ruins of an old building, which he appropriates for himself.
