Out of Competition – Special Screening: “Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case” by Olga Konskaya and Andrei Nekrasov
On November 23, 2006, Alexander Litvinenko, a former Russian intelligence agent, died in a London hospital, the victim of poisoning with the highly radioactive chemical polonium-210. The
documentary Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case, directed by Andrei Nekrasov and Olga Konskaya, examines the mysterious event. The film was added to the Official Selection as an Out
of Competition feature May 23 by the Festival’s Artistic Delegate Thierry Frémaux, who commented, “It’s a very factual documentary and a memorial film, which looks at the Litvinenko
case from the standpoint of who Litvinenko was, and who, in Russia, is still trying to keep a free press alive.”
