Biography

Born in Tehran, Leila Hatrami grew up in a cinematic family, her mother, Zari Khoshkam, was a movie star before the revolution and her father, Ali Hatami is still regarded as the icon of the national Iranian cinema and it was in some of his films that she appeared for the first time. However it was the title role of Dariush Mehrjui’s "Leila" in 1998 that brought her stardom in Iran and international attention outside. In 2002 she won the best actress award in 26th Montreal World Film Festival for her role in "The Deserted Station" and in 2011 she gained world recognition with Asghar Farhadi’s "A Separation" which brought her and her partners the Silver Bear in Berlinale 65. Since then she has had a noted performance in "The Last Step" directed by her husband Ali Mosaffa for which she won in Karlovy Vary Festival 2012 the best actress award.
