Chema Prado (José María Prado Garcia), born in Galicia in 1952, studied interior architecture before turning to cinema. From 1989 to 2016, he directed the Filmoteca Española, leading restoration projects and fostering international collaborations. Under his leadership, the Filmoteca became central to global archival networks. He collaborates with the San Sebastian Film Festival and Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna. Chema Prado has been recognized for his commitment to safeguarding Spain’s film heritage and promoting cinema as both art form and historical document. He also served on FIAF’s Executive Committee. Prado is an accomplished photographer, with exhibitions in Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Mexico, and beyond. His work explores visual culture, memory, and the link between cinema and photography.
