    Synopsis

    Un petit village d'Espagne, en proie à la sécheresse, au début des années cinquante. On annonce l'arrivée imminente de la Commission Internationale du Plan Marshall, qui parcourt l'Europe pour distribuer des crédits aux municipalités méritantes. Il importe de recevoir dignement ces hôtes de marque... Un bonimenteur professionnel, Manolo, et une danseuse de cabaret se chargent d'organiser la " réception". Ils ont l'idée de maquiller les rues pauvres du village en Andalousie de rêve. Tout le monde se met à l'oeuvre. La nuit, les paysans rêvent de tracteurs descendus du ciel en parachute... Le grand jour arrive. Les Américains surgissent dans de luxueuses voitures, traversent le village en trombe et disparaissent dans un nuage de poussière. C'est la consternation.
