Sous le haut patronage du ministère de la Culture et du Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée en partenariat avec France Télévisions et TV5 Monde, ce prix sera remis pour la 30e année consécutive dans le cadre du Festival de Cannes, le vendredi 22 mai à 19h30 à la Maison France Télévisions Brut., Esplanade de la Pantiero. Créé il y a 30 ans par Mei-Chen Chalais, son épouse, ce prix récompense chaque année un film qui traduit au mieux la réalité de notre monde, en restant fidèle à la pensée humaniste de François Chalais. En 2025, le prix François Chalais a été remis au réalisateur ukrainien Sergueï Loznitsa pour Deux Procureurs. En 2024, il a été décerné au réalisateur iranien Mohammad Rasoulof pour Les Graines du figuier sauvage, avec une mention spéciale attribuée à L’His- toire de Souleymane de Boris Lojkine. Le prix a aussi distingué le réalisateur italien Marco Bellocchio pour L’Enlèvement en 2023, Tarik Saleh pour La Conspiration du Caire en 2022 et Asghar Farhadi pour Un héros en 2021. En 2019, il a récompensé le réalisateur améri- cain Terrence Malick pour Une vie cachée, et, en 2018, le réalisateur égyptien A. B. Shawky pour Yomeddine. En 2015, László Nemes a remporté le prix avec Le Fils de Saul, tandis qu’en 2014, Abderrahmane Sissako était distingué pour Timbuktu.
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the French National Center of Cinema with the sponsoring of France Télévisions and TV5 Monde, this award will be attributed for the 30th consecutive year within the Festival de Cannes on Friday, May 22nd at 7.30pm at the Maison France Télévisions Brut., Pantiero. Created 30 years ago by Mei-Chen Chalais, his wife, the Prix François Chalais rewards every year a film that best reflects the reality of our world, respecting François Chalais’s thoughts. In 2025, the François Chalais Award was presented to Ukrainian director Sergueï Loznitsa for his film Two Prosecutors. In 2024, the award went to Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof for The Seed of the Sacred Fig, with a special mention for The Story of Souleymane by Boris Lojkine. The award was presented to Marco Bellocchio for Rapito in 2023, to Tarik Saleh for Boy from Heaven in 2022, and to Asghar Farhadi for A Hero in 2021. Earlier recipients include Terrence Malick for A Hidden Life (2019) and A. B. Shawky for Yomeddine (2018). In 2015, László Nemes received the award for Son of Saul, while Abderrahmane Sissako was honoured for Timbuktu in 2014.

La Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique (FIPRESCI) a fêté en 2025 son centenaire : créée par des journalistes de cinéma de France et Belgique en 1925, elle incorporait en 1931 des associations d’autres pays et adoptait le nom sous lequel elle est connue aujourd’hui. Ses membres proviennent de plus de 80 pays. La FIPRESCI établit des jurys de la Critique dans la plupart des grands festivals internationaux et dans le cadre de nombreux événements spécialisés partout dans le monde, afin de promouvoir l’art du cinéma et de soutenir les nouveaux regards. La Fédération décerne également des prix spéciaux, comme son Grand Prix au meilleur film de l’année, le Prix Patrimoine remis au Festival Lumière depuis 2025 ; elle lance cette année son Grand Prix Documentaire. Elle propose des ateliers pour les jeunes critiques et participe à d’autres activités autour du cinéma et de la critique. Présent à Cannes dès le premier Festival en 1946, le Jury FIPRESCI délivre trois Prix de la Critique internationale : un en Compétition, un dans la section Un Certain Regard et le troisième pour un premier long métrage de la Semaine de la Critique ou de la Quinzaine des Cinéastes.
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) cele- brated its centennial in 2025: it was formed by French and Belgian film journalists in 1925 and, by 1931, it included associations from other countries and adopted its definite name. Today, the members of the Federation come from more than 80 countries. FIPRESCI establishes international critics’ juries in most of the main film festivals throughout the world, as well as in numerous specialized events, with the purpose of promoting film-art and encouraging new and young cinema. The Federation also awards special prizes, such as its Grand Prix for the Best Film of the Year, the Heritage Award created in Festival Lumière since 2025; and it launches this year his Documentary Grand Prix. It holds workshops for young critics at major festivals and takes part in other events and conferences on film and film criticism. In Cannes, where it is present since the 1946 inaugural edition, the FIPRESCI Jury awards three international critics’ prizes: one for a film in Competition, one in Un Certain Regard section and the third one for a first film in either the Semaine de la Critique or the Directors’ Fortnight.
