Cannes Classics: Claude Ventura’s “Cinéma Cinémas” TV series

Every year, the Festival's Cannes Classics program features masterpieces from the history of cinema.

Every year, the Cannes Festival features masterpieces from the history of film in his program called Cannes Classics. The great works from the past may be drawn from recently restored copies, theater re-releases, or notable DVD releases.

This 61st year, the festivities will begin with La Collection Cinéma Cinémas, in the Salle du Soixantième auditorium. In cooperation with the national television and radio broadast archive INA, and at the urging of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Michel Boujut and Claude Ventura recreated their 1980s TV series about film, "Cinéma Cinémas," with all due respect to its original form. "The program was driven by emotion, above all," the hosts explained. "Our goal was to arrange the show so that film would tell its own story. We were fortunate to be spared promotional trivialities."

At the presentation of this Collection, Jean-Pierre Jeunet added, nostalgically, "It seems logical to me to screen this television series at a great film festival like Cannes. I used to watch it with immense delight, because it was about cinema. I think it was a great inspiration to me." Cannes artistic director Thierry Frémaux concluded, "We are proud to be showing this sample of the series, relaunching the idea that television can also be a repository for the memory of cinema. Enjoy the show!"
