Au petit bonheur (Happy Go Lucky) by Marcel l’Herbier at Cannes Classics

Cannes Classics continues to bring back films from the past with the screening of Marcel l’Herbier’s, Au petit bonheur (Happy Go Lucky, 1946). This feature-length film will be shown in the Salle Buñuel, at 5 p.m., in a version restored by the French Archives of the Centre National du Cinéma and Image Animée, and StudioCanal.

The title, Au Petit Bonheur, leads us to expect a harmonious and idyllic story. However, the film is about a turbulent love affair between Martine and Denis characterised by an endless repetition of “I love you, I don’t” and “we split up, we get back together”. Until the day Martine meets an old and distinguished novelist.
