Hollywood don’t surf! rolls into the Cinéma de la plage

Greg MacGallivray

What could be better than a screening at the Cinéma de la plage for the documentary Hollywood don’t surf! by Gref MacGillivray and Sam George? This evening on the plage Macé at 9:30 p.m.

Hollywood don’t surf! takes an amusing look at the conflictual relationship between the American capital of film and the world of surfing. The film’s director and two-time Oscar nominee, Greg MacGallivray, knows this topic well. He began his career making surfing documentaries such as Five Summer Stories (1972). This new film focuses above all on the chaotic production of the film, Big Wednesday (1978) by John Milius, considered to be a classic of this genre. It also includes interviews with numerous filmmakers and famous surfers such as Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Laird Hamilton. In addition, Hollywood don’t surf! features rare archive images from a surfing expedition in Hawaii in 1906 shot by the brilliant inventor Thomas Edison. Calling all surfing enthusiasts!
