Cinéfondation: opening of the Selection
The Cinéfondation invites the cream of the world’s film schools to Cannes. This year, sixteen directors from fourteen countries have been selected. The first four short films are being screened today.
Trained in Singapore, French filmmaker Nathanael Carton opens the Cinéfondation programme with Suu and Ichikawa. In Japan, an old man lives with a young Burmese woman who has no papers. But one day, immigration officials arrive at their door.
Italian filmmaker Pasquale Marino has been selected with L’Estate che non Viene (Till Summer Comes), a short film about friendship. As summer approaches, fate tries to separate the boys Nicholas, Daniel and Lollo. They join forces to fight to remain together.
The United States is represented by the duo D. Jesse Damazo and Joe Bookman, who are presenting their first joint project: The Agony and Sweat of the Human Spirit. This comedy features a ukulele player and his impresario who struggle to successfully carry out their plans.
Finally, the Argentinean filmmaker Mariano Luque closes the programme withSalsipuedes, his fourth short film. Rafa and his wife Carmen go on a holiday. Their campground is in the heart of a magnificent forest but in spite of the idyllic setting, they are not able to enjoy their holiday
