Cinéfondation Programme 3 kicks off with four short films to be screened in the Buñuel theatre at 2 p.m.

Young Brazilian director Alice Furtado is delighted to see her film Duelo Antes da Noite (Duel before Nightfall) being screened. “It’s an amazing experience.” She explores the fate of two children “with a complicated past, a boy and girl who are about to experience a major change in their lives.”

Bento Monogatari (Lunchbox Story) by the Belgian Pieter Dirkx also features in the programme. Yvonne desperately attempts to resuscitate her marriage by immersing herself in Japanese pop culture. “I wasn’t trying to make a comedy, even though people can tend to read certain scenes that way.”

With Der Wechselbalg (Changeling), the German Maria Steinmetz adapts for the big screen the story of Selma Lagerlöf, who “dramatically recounts the tale of a married couple whose child has been replaced by a small troll.”

The programme closes with Al Martha Lauf (Martha Must Fly) by the Israeli Ma’Ayan Rypp, who is “honoured to be in the selection.” Rypp explores the character of Martha, a foreign care worker lumbered with working for a sick old woman who refuses to die. “It’s a very realistic film, but the character takes refuge in a fantasy world of make-believe.”
