Jack Sparrow – alias Johnny Depp – disembarks on the Croisette!

Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, presented out of competition in 3D at Cannes, looks into different myths, including those surrounding Blackbeard and mermaids … Jack Sparrow is back, for the greatest joy of fans of the trilogy, who will be able to see the fourth opus wearing 3D glasses and a dinner jacket!

Action, humour, charm and adventure are the key ingredients of the programme scheduled at the Grand Théâtre Lumière on Saturday 14th May. Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush have put on their pirate costumes, to be directed by film producer, Rob Marshall, who won the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture, for his musical comedy, Chicago, in 2002.

This time, Jack Sparrow’s path crosses that of the enigmatic Angelica, as they are both on a quest for the Fountain of Youth, which is said to restore the youth of those who drink from it…. Aboard the ship of the formidable Blackbeard, they find themselves on an adventure full of twists, meet mermaids, whose song is reputed to kill sailors, whilst being tied to a mysterious past…

The film is a free interpretation of Tim Powers’ novel On Stranger Tides, published in 1988.
As for the myth surrounding the pirate Blackbeard, he really did exist: he was an English man, who went by the name of Edward Teach and raged in the early 18th century, and is often depicted with black ribbons flapping from the braids of his beard.

Fans of this adventure saga can see it in cinemas soon – 18th May in France and 20th May in the USA.
