The Village International or World Cinema’s Big Screen
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia and Montenegro are the 4 nations represented for the first time at the 2011 Village International. All told, more than 50 countries have set up pavilions in this space devoted to exhibition and exchange. The Village has grown considerably since its creation in 2000 and increasingly each year serves to further the development of the film industry around the world. Unique links have been created between movie professionals: producers, distributors and even festival organisers. But the opportunities created through the Village International don’t stop there. A pavilion can be transformed into a press centre or a hospitality area offering producers a valuable asset to publicise and advance their projects, which, these days, usually require international investment.
The Village International is a true showcase of world cinema. Though at the outset we mustered only around fifteen pavilions, today we total more than sixty. In addition to the different nations, we are playing host this year to 16 representatives of French cinema as well as the European Union and Cinémas du Monde. Festival-goers can look forward to a real tour of world cinema beside the Mediterranean.
