Jacopo Olmo Antonieri: “Among young people especially, there’s the desire to assert one’s own identity”

The duo of actors Jacopo Olmo Antinori and Tea Falco accompanied Bernardo Bertolucci for the press conference of Me and You. The co-screenwriters and Niccolo Ammaniti, author of the eponymous novel that the director adapted for the film, were also present to answer journalists’ questions.

Fabio Cianchetti is someone who knows what he’s doing. He looks around himself, he is inspired by the atmospheres determined by the text. Once he has done that, he adds the lights, following his own path and creating small miracles for every scene. Every time we film, we are in a trance. He can understand what I want and he always surprises me. It’s part of his creativity.

I realised that there are more and more young people like Lorenzo who lock themselves away to avoid suffocating and suffering. But this is not true for the majority of young people. Among young people especially, there’s the desire to assert one’s own identity. With the Internet and Facebook, it’s all gotten distorted but the main idea is to assert yourself and have self-awareness.

These two characters are both extremely dramatic. Maybe there is something that links all women that I film. In the future, I would like to film women who are not so desperate. It was a few years ago now that I shot Last Tango in Paris but now I find myself face to face with an extremely complex woman.
