Best Actor to Benicio Del Toro for his role in “Che” by Steven Soderbergh

French actress Valerie Lemercier had the honors of handing the award for Best Actor to Benicio Del Toro for his role in Che by Steven Soderbergh.

The actor expressed his thanks:
I have to thank Wild Bunch, I have to thank Tele5, to thank Warner Bros France. They made this dream come true, made this movie happen. I’d like to dedicate this to the man himself. I want to thank Cannes, I want to thank the Jury and I also want to share this with the director, Steven Soderbergh, who got up every day, forced me to do this. He was just a reflection for me of every day, getting up and doing it when we didn’t have anything else to do, we couldn’t do anything. We were completely lost, and he was there pushing it and pushed all of us. I’d also like to thank Laura Bickford, the producer.”

During the Awards Press Conference, Benicio Del Toro added, “I wouldn’t be here without Che so this belongs to Che too and every award that the movie gets, you have to pay your respects to the man… I think that Latin America has been now for some time making a lot of cinema, a lot of great actors. It’s a great night for Latin American actors and a great night for cinema…a Mexican director on the Jury…there’s going to be more, and more…”
