Mathieu Amalric : “I wanted to create disorder”
Mathieu Amalric and the crew and cast of the film Tournée, presented today En Compétition, spoke at a press conference this afternoon. Chosen extracts.
Mathieu Amalric evokes the beginnings of his film:
“The story of this film started with reading a book by Colette called, L’envers du Music-Hall (Behind the Scenes of Music Hall). Wherever she went, Colette created scandal. So for Tournée, I wanted something which would correspond to this woman’s world. I wanted to create disorder, disobedience and politics without for all that delivering a specific message“.

Mathieu Amalric, about the editing of Tournée:
“The moment we went into editing was like starting a real grieving process, because in its initial form it was 3 hours and 15 minutes long. We shot some extraordinary scenes which unfortunately we couldn’t keep. This was proof that filmmaking can sometimes be terribly painful.“

Linda Marraccini talks about the New Burlesque:
“There’s a real revolution in Burlesque happening in the world right now, and in particular in the US where everything started spontaneously, like rock and roll and the punk movement. I love Burlesque and think it can be useful for educating women. It exists to destroy stereotypes. Moreover, Tournée is a woman’s film“.
