The Lips (Los Labios), reaching out to others
Argentinean cinema will be represented again today in Un Certain Regard with The Lips (Los Labios) (Salle Debussy, 16:30), the latest product of a collaboration between Santiago Loza and Ivan Fund taht began in 2008.
Above all, the two Argentinean filmmakers wanted their latest co-direction, the fourth since 2008, to reflect their vision of cinema: a way of reaching out to others, to touch them, to move them. Los Labios is a film about company, about the meaning of “being together”. “The camera approaches people. It moves towards their faces and bodies, discovering their spontaneity and truth. It’s a film that is alive, in the present moment.” they explain.
Los Labios tells the story of three women working for the Argentinean social services as helpers in the ruins of a hospital. Initially difficult, their relationships become more peaceful over the course of this imposed cohabitation. It is a story about human beings that the two directors have imagined in the form of a dream: “the story of these women could also be part of a dream, a memory, a legend about those who decide to be part of the world.” After Carancho (Diego Lerman), screened yesterday, Los Labios is the second Argentinean feature film presented in Un Certain Regard.
