Cannes Classics is screening a documentary by Catherine Cadou, Kurosawa, la voie… (Kurosawa’s Way). Eleven film makers talk about the man and his work in a tribute to the famous Japanese producer.

Catherine Candou worked with and translated for Akira Kurosawa for many years, and wanted to pay tribute to the Japanese director by producing Kurosawa, la voie… (Kurosawa’s Way). She met and interviewed eleven filmmakers from around the world, including Bernardo Bertolucci, Julie Taymor, Theo Angelopoulos and Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Abbas Kiarostami, Shynia Tsukamoto and Hayao Miyazaki share about the first time they saw a Kurosawa film. John Woo and Joon-ho Bong talk about their favourite films. Clint Eastwood explains how the Japanese director has inspired the cinema industry and Martin Scorsese tells of his attention to detail. They give an accurate picture of Akira Kurosawa, who said throughout his career, “I don’t know what cinema is, that’s why I keep making films”.
