CINÉMA DE LA PLAGE – Pulp Fiction returns in triumph to Cannes

20 years have already passed since Pulp Fiction garnered the Palme d’or. To mark the occasion, the Cinéma de la plage will host an anniversary evening in the presence of Quentin Tarantino, John Travolta and Uma Thurman. Accompanied by the producers Lawrence Bender and  Harvey Weinstein, they will once more climb the steps at Cannes before the anniversary screening.

A night in May 1994. It’s midnight and Quentin Tarantino is in competition for the first time, the Grand Théâtre Lumière Is about to discover the unique world of the filmmaker, a world riddled with dangers, unpredictable, both violent and full of wit. Two hours and 34 minutes later the critics are unanimous: this is a magnificent film.
 

A gigantic publicity campaign begins. The public can’t wait. Five months after the Festival de Cannes, Pulp Fiction Is released.

The entire world is captivated by the bloody tribulations and the stinging put-downs of Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), by the diabolic twist between Vincent and Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), and the crazy manhunt for Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis). It’s a worldwide smash hit and the film chalks up $213 million.
 

20 years later and already a major classic. Pulp Fiction has never stopped inspiring artists from every walk of life. The famous street artist Banksy doctored a portrait of Vincent and Jules, brandishing bananas instead of revolvers. pop music has also drawn on the film for inspiration, including Lady Gaga whose Telephone video reproduced the restaurant scene.
