In Special Screenings, Jerry Lee Lewis : Trouble in Mind, a documentary by Ethan Coen, looks at the colorful life of American pianist Jerry Lee Lewis, one of the last representatives of the rock 'n roll movement, born in 1935.

Until now, only Jim McBride's biographical film from 1989, with Dennis Quaid in the role of the artist and Winona Ryder, has examined the meteoric rise of the rock pioneer who sang "Great Balls of Fire!" and "Trouble in Mind". In his first film directed without his brother, Ethan Coen selected the documentary format to take the spectator on an electrifying ride through the life of the fiery Jerry Lee Lewis, the wildest figure in rock 'n roll in the eyes of many fans, including the director. A documentary that brings together stories and statements made by the legend of rock himself, in person.

“Either be hot or cold. If you are lukewarm, the Lord will spew you forth from his mouth.”

The energetic style of "The killer", as he was nicknamed, a singer, pianist, as well as an actor in his spare time, quickly compelled the music industry to take notice. Known for his uncommon ability to electrify a stage, the former poor boy from Louisiana led a troubled life marked by excess in all things: drugs, alcohol, and even voluntarily setting his own piano on fire. The musician notably paved the way for all the future bad boys of rock, dedicating his enormous talent to his music.

Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind is the first film made by Ethan Coen without his brother Joel, who also made his solo debut as a director in 2021 with The Tragedy of Macbeth. The Coen brothers have presented eight films In Competition, including Inside Llewyn Davis in 2013.
